"Empty Nester's" Bucket List

The kids are grown, no more school fees and getting close to (but not quite ready) for retirement.

The kids have got their own lives and finally, we have the house to ourselves. Yep, no more school runs, sports days and pick ups, and best of all- no more school fees!

There is a term for people like us - "Empty Nesters". Some call them "SKINs" (Spending Kid's Inheritance Now) :-). Whatever your motivation, this is a time to enjoy life and reap the rewards of your hard work and sacrifice.

For some it is a sad time, the children they devoted their lives to are off doing their own thing and no longer need Mum and Dad as much as they did before.

For others, it is the beginning of a new chapter, a time when you can grow as an individual and as a couple (if you are in a relationship at this stage) and start to do the things you want to to do, and go to places you want to go.

Gone are the family friendly restaurants, replaced with fine dining and culinary experiences. Goodbye Disneyland and hello South of France.

Our tastes have changed over the years and we are looking for comfort rather then speed.

It is time to create your bucket list and start ticking off the wish list before we get too old to get around. Retirement village- I am not ready for you yet!

This Blog is about destinations, gustation and libations; showcasing things and places that might provide ideas for your bucket list, and where to enjoy the simple things.

Somethings are easy to try - a new restaurant or a new cocktail. Others require some planning (OK maybe a lot...), so I hope to provide you with the insights you need to help with your planning. I just want to inspire your bucket list.

Having said that, these are my experiences ( I get that), and they may not be for everyone, but it is always good to get a recommendation from someone who has tried a place.

Who knows, the kids may even want to join you again once they see what you are up to!

Jill Savage's book Empty Nest  Full Life reminds us that empty nesting can be a difficult and disorientating time, but it can also be the best time of your life.

So whats next? I hope you get inspired.

After all:
Best wishes,

Rosey.
