Summer in Sydney - 2023

I know I write a lot about Sydney, but that’s because there is just so much bucket list worthy stuff to see and do there (and eat...and drink...).

Apparently I am not the only one who thinks so either. Based on search volumes by Airbnb, it has ranked Sydney as the second best travel destination in the world!  That’s right, the entire world - for 2023. Malaga took out the #1 spot and Melbourne came in 3rd, followed by Auckland, Bangkok, Queenstown and Florianoplis.

Our amazing harbour has been a focus of events lately, showcasing us around the world. Of course we kicked off with the iconic Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race, a Boxing Day tradition and a highlight on the calendar. Next the spectacular fireworks on the harbour wowed people around the globe as we welcomed in the New Year.

Hot on its sails on Feb 18th and 19th, and sure to be just as spectacular - is the Australian leg of the Sail GP- think Formula 1 on water. Following a successful season 2, Olympic gold medallist Tom Slingsby will lead the team against the sports best sailors from 8 different countries, hoping to take out the coveted race again.

Of course standing imposingly on the harbour is our grand Dame- the Sydney Opera House that turns 50 this year and is a must see destination on any bucket list. To see what's planned throughout the year go to the Opera House 50 site.

And what’s not to love about old Sydney town - especially with the Sydney Festival also about to go into full swing from the 5th - 29th January 2023 - so get in quick. With a range of free and paid events- there will be something for everyone.

One of the highlights of the Sydney Festival for certain will be the unique Frida Kahlo Biography event on for a limited time.

Co-created by the Frida Kahlo Corporation and the renowned Spanish digital arts company Layers of Reality, the Frida Kahlo: Life of an Icon multi-sensory experience features nine transformational spaces, from collections of historical photographs and original films, captivating holography, 360º projections and a virtual reality system that will literally transport you inside Kahlo’s most famous works.

Of course, Summer is a great time to go to Sydney to take advantage of the great weather and of course the beaches and the best of Australia’s freshest produce.

Summer time just got a lot cooler too in the city with the opening of Sydney's first city beach (or at least the first to open in 50 years west of the Sydney Harbour Bridge), with the ban on swimming at Barangaroo Reserve’s Marrinawi Cove being lifted.
Once deemed too polluted to swim in, a lot of work has been done to clean up the water. Judging by the number of people who have taken the plunge - it seems the water is great and provides a perfect spot to cool down in the hot Sydney summer.
