Libations - Maybe Sammy.
When the 2022 edition of The World's 50 Best Bars, sponsored by Perrier, was unveiled last October, the cocktail collective around the world were quick to put them all on their bucket list to get a chance to try the globe’s most intoxicating and inventive libations.
Flying the flag for Australia were 2 incredible Sydney bars - the 1950’s Rat-Pack inspired Maybe Sammy in The Rocks and the mezcal mecca Cantina OK located in a small laneway off Clarence Street.
For early birds there is a mini happy hour cocktail list ($7) and Saturdays enjoy $2 Sydney Rock oysters. Jazz and swing on Th, Fri and Sat.
I enjoy a martini and I have to say- I prefer the traditional recipe to some of the newer variations on the theme. Maybe Sammy outdid themselves with a Classic martini from their Martini Trolley.
Having “The Minis” (half size serves) meant I could also try a Mini Angelo Azzuro martini - just in time to prep my tastebuds for my upcoming Italian trip (gin, curacao and Martini Bianco). The minis are available from 4.30 - 5.30pm daily.
I will need to save the treat of trying one of their Vintage Cocktails - that use antique spirits from their private collection - for another day after I win the lotto. The Vesper Martini sounds like it has my name written on it!
Of course it is not all martinis- they have an extensive and innovative cocktail list and premium wines, champagnes and beers.
A light Mediterranean inspired food menu - small but well curated - is also available - and for some comfort food - the truffled cheese toastie is delicious!
Like what you taste? Take home their premium ready-to-pour cocktails, handmade and batched locally.
Walk in only.
Whilst Maybe Sammy was on my bucket list, I wont be ticking it off just yet- we have unfinished business - with more cocktails to try!
